Description

The lane snapper, scientific name Lutjanus synagris, is a species of snapper native to the western Atlantic Ocean from North Carolina to southern Brazil, together with the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea.

These almond-shaped reef fish usually find a favorite location and don’t stray far from it their entire lives. They’re pink-red on top, with yellow to red fins, and they have silvery bodies with pink to yellow lines running from end to end. Although they generally grow to about 14 inches long, they’ve been caught at 20 inches as well.

Lane snapper species is silvery-pink to reddish in coloration, with quick, irregular, pink, and yellow strains on its sides; it has a diffuse black spot, about as massive as the attention; the dorsal fin is centered above the lateral line.

Lane snapper is typically caught on hook and line and is thought-about to be extra aggressive and simpler to catch than different snappers, as they are usually much less cautious of hooks and features.

Biology

The Lutjanus synagris lives on reefs and is native to the Atlantic Ocean, from North Carolina all the way until Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil), including the Caribbean. The outer margin of the lane snapper caudal fin is blackish.

It may be present in a many habitats, although it prefers sandy areas with plentiful vegetation at depths from 10 to 400 m (33 to 1,312 ft), most often between 69 and 230 feet.

Lane snapper is usually caught in shallower waters than many different snappers, mostly yellowtail snapper and mangrove snapper.

Lane snapper species can attain a size of 60 cm (24 in), although most don’t exceed 25 cm (9.8 in). The best-recorded weight for this species is 3.5 kg (7.7 lb).

The atlantic lane snapper spawns March by way of September; it’s sexually mature at 6 in. It feeds on the underside, taking crustaceans, mollusks, and smaller fish. Bigger specimens could be found in deeper waters, however, they are usually less plentiful.
